Mexican Hash (Picadillo)

Picadillo dish is a common one in all Mexican homes that is consumed even at least once a week. This dish is very easy to prepare and is preferred for its versatility. You can eat it as it is or use it as a filling for your tamales, burritos, tacos and chiles rellenos. This is a favourite one among all age groups as it is rich in flavours.

Picadillo

Ingredients:

Ground beef – 2 lbs

Small tomatoes – 6

Peeled and cubed potatoes – 3 cups

Garlic (peeled & chopped) – 4

Medium onions (chopped) – 2

Poblano chillies (green) – 1

Olive oil – ¼ cup

Dark brown sugar – 1 tbsp

Vinegar – ¼ cup

Capers – 1 tbsp

Red wine or tomato juice – ½ cup

Salt – 2 tsp

Pepper powder – a dash

Method:

  • Heat olive oil and stir fry the diced potatoes until they become soft.
  • Now take the potatoes from the oil and keep aside.
  • Heat the oil in skillet, add ground beef, garlic, pepper, tomatoes and salt and mix together.
  • Once the meat is cooked well, add potatoes and rest of the ingredients.

Now simmer well over medium heat and keep it for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
