Iced Mexican Coffee Cocktail with Spicy Café De Olla

Are you bored of drinking the same old coffee? Need a coffee with a kick? Then you will love this iced Mexican coffee with the spicy café de olla. This flavourful coffee has the impressive mixture of cinnamon, star anise and cloves to provide you with an authentic zing. The indulging experience of this coffee makes it double up as a cocktail.

Iced Mexican Coffee

Ingredients for café de olla:

Water – 5 cups

Cinnamon sticks – 4

Cloves – 6

Star anise – 4

Sugar – ¼ cup

Packed brown sugar – ¼ cup

Ground roasted coffee (dark) – ¾ cup

For iced Mexican coffee:

Chocolate syrup – 1 tablespoon

Ice cubes

Coffee liqueur – 1 ounce

Cold café de olla – ½ cup

Heavy cream – 1 tbsp

Cinnamon

Method:

For café de olla:

  1. Mix water, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and two types of sugars in a saucepan. Stir and boil. Then simmer it for half an hour.
  2. Remove from heat, add the ground coffee and stir. Cover and steep for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour through the sieve lined with coffee filter. Serve it hot or allow it to cool down and refrigerate to be used as cold coffee.

For Mexican coffee:

Drizzle the chocolate syrup at the bottom of a glass and then add ice cubes, café de olla, coffee liqueur and cream. Sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon.
